Keynote address from Roberto Kobeh González, President of the Council, International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)  by video


The aviation industry has set out a roadmap to reduce CO2 emissions between now and 2050. This session will look at the roadmap in more detail and put it into a global political context while exploring the progress of the government and regulatory framework being developed as part of the crucial ICAO and United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) processes.

13.15  PANEL 2: COLLABORATING ON INFRASTRUCTURE

Improvements in air traffic management systems and procedures play a vital role in reducing emissions. In this session we will look at how to accelerate and maximise the opportunities from infrastructure efficiencies such as collaborative decision making, Single European Sky, the U.S. NextGen programme and airport design. Importantly, the roles of the different stakeholders - air navigation services providers, governments and airlines - will be examined and we will explore how they can work most effectively together.

14.30  PANEL 3: COLLABORATING ON OPERATIONS

There is a vast range of initiatives underway that optimises flight and ground operations with the aim to minimise environmental impact. This session will address how the industry can mainstream these into daily operations and roll them out across the wider aviation sector in cooperation with all relevant stakeholders.

16.15  PANEL 4: EXPLORING THE INTERDEPENDENCIES

Scene setting:  ATAG Board member Angela Gittens, Director General, Airports Council International (ACI)

Carbon emissions reduction efforts cannot  be made in isolation. Noise, NOx, routes, management, passenger convenience and airline marketing are all impacted, and there are many trade-offs that need to be factored in when undertaking action on climate change. This panel will explore these trade-offs and look at potential solutions.
