Dr Ian Maxwell

The career of Dr Ian Maxwell has encompassed research, technology and new business development with the Shell Group at the senior global executive level. He was also the co-founder and CEO of two successful high technology European start-up companies. On returning to New Zealand, he held the position of General Manager at Auckland UniServices which is the commercial arm of the University of Auckland.
More recently he co-founded Maxall Energy which was focused on the development and commercialization of technologies to convert biomass to conventional “drop-in” transportation fuels. Maxall Energy has recently been acquired by Ignite Energy Resources, Australia and he is now the managing director of their new subsidiary, Ignite Energy Resources, New Zealand.
Dr Ian Maxwell has a PhD in Chemistry, from the Australian National University, and is the co-author of some 80 scientific, technology review articles and book chapters as well as the author of a recently published book entitled “Managing Sustainable Innovation”. He is also the co-inventor of some 25 patents that have been filed internationally.
